Only an exciting, colorful and fascinating cuisine could have inspired our literature Nobel, Gabriel García Márquez, to write up the flavors of his Magical Realism. Dive into our award-winning gastronomic journey and explore with us the traditional gastronomy of the Colombian Caribbean, discovering it through the food that Gabo used to feed his stories and make them even more captivating.

What you’ll live
Relive the magic of some of his most celebrated texts like “Love in the Times of Cholera”, “Of Love and other Demons” and award winning “One Hundred Years of Solitude”, while strolling through colorful and dreamy streets filled with charm, tasting some of the bites and sips that Gabo served his characters. Chat with the true guardians of our culinary treasure and take home the secrets of their recipes.

Our adventure
Relive the journey Gabo undertook to write his love story with Cartagena, by touring nine of his unmissable spots in the Historic Centre, including the Clock Tower, Plaza de los Coches, Plaza de la Aduana and Plaza de Bolívar.

Fall rendered to the flavors of Magical Realism:

  • The Captain’s breakfast: a wonderful green plantain “patacón”, crunchy and salty.
  • The Diosa Coronada’s sweets: the treasures of the Sweets Portal, fruity, nutty flavors, part of our Spanish legacy.
  • Black Africa’s gift: a divinely delicious slice of fresh pineapple to be enjoyed while listening to the cries of an authentic palenquera
  • The Coronel’s sacrifice: a fresh cup of the most delicious mild coffee in the world
  • The promised bite for Santiago Nasar: an authentic caribañola, soft yucca dough filled with salty cheese.
  • The invention of the Aurelianos: a magnificent tropical fruit flavored gelatto; refreshing and exotic.
  • The general’s whim: coronilla guava, acidic and intense, transformed into bocadillo, a sweet, intense colored dessert-paste, gastronomic patrimony of Colombia, craved by every generation.
  • The smell of guava: a wonderful journey through nostalgia in one of the Caribbean gastronomy’s icons, arepa de huevo.
  • End you journey with an ideal dose of his favorite liquor.
